    Multiple MOTU 896's on PC

    Hi,

I've been using a single MOTU 896 on my PC for a while now. I decided I liked it so much, I'd buy a second. Then my problems began...

Upon first connecting them, things seemed to work fine. I'm using the MOTU 896 as the audio output of the PC as well. When I tried playing an MP3 or even my project files, the Clock lights on whichever is listed as the 2nd Motu start to flash and then the play back starts to skip. Clearly not a desired result.

The first thing I noticed that was obvious is that the firmware numbers were different for the two. One was 1.0 and the other was 1.01. I asked MOTU about it and they said it is a firmware problem and they will send me a firmware upgrade. After installing the chip they sent me, I noticed that the firmware on the one that uses to say 1.0 now says 1.02 and the problem still occurs. I'm going to get in touch with MOTU again to see if the other one needs to be upgraded as well.

I'm almost running out of time before I can take the second one back to the store so I might just do that as well. Has anyone had this problem?

Is anyone running a Mac system with 2 or more MOTU 896's and having success? I'm just curious... I used to be a Mac user myself before work bastardized me...

    Thanks

I have not used the MOTU firewire interfaces on the PC, only a MAC. However, this shouldn't matter....but understand that PC's are nightmares :-) I know for a fact that multiple 896's WILL work on a MAC but like I said, no reason to doubt why it won't on a PC. Get a MAC, then you can run Digital Performer :-) However instead of a second 896, why didn't you just get a Digimax LT or an OctoPre? And what do you mean about running out of time before you can take the second one back to the store, did you not buy this from Sweetwater?? :-) If not, you should take it back and buy through us so you can get the support! :-)
