anyone have good suggestions for a bass guitar for a beginer my budget is about $100-$300

You can find some nice used MIM Fender jazz bass for $300 or less. Don't buy any of those cheap fender copies.

You can check out Ibanez. They make some real good basses that aren't that much.

As said above, a used Mexican fender or an Ibanez is a good choice....i would also like to add a Spector Performance bass, they are spectors lower end model but i have played them before and they are a great bass for the price...you might have to spend closer to 400$ for one though, (unless you find a used one)

Well, I've played some of those Tex-Mex Fender P and J basses and I have found that the lower end Ibanez basses have a better sound and better playability. Also, I would add that Washburn makes a great bass for that price range with the slim neck also. The choice is yours!
