Drum Micing - Question from an observer

A reader of this forum has sent me the following email. As I'm not a listener of Limp Bizkit of Staind, perhaps someone could chime in and help with some drum micing ideas?

Hello Nika, I was wondering if you could offer me some tips on getting the same drum sound as Staind and Limp Bizkit recordings... I understand that the drums and the drummer have a ton to do with it but any advice would be great. I am currently using Digital Performer 3.0 , 8 custom made Dan Alexander Neve/API hybrid Mic Pres, all bombfactory Plug-ins, a motu 2408, and all of the appropriate microphones(I think!!)
    Thank You for your time.

Thanx, guys! Let's see if we can help this guy out!

    Nika.

Soundreplacer is a great idea for the Protools user. Anyone else have any ideas?

    Thanx!

    Question

    Nika,

What kind of mic's and drums (and drum heads) does he have? This will determine whats the best plan of action for him.

dont forget about the sticks and the acutal drummer while you are at it.

    non-pt windoze users: drumagog
non-pt mac users: soundreplacer with PT Free or Peak
    or midi triggers.

those bands drums are WAY TOO consistant to be anything but soundreplaced. what sealed it for me was this session i had where the drummer ripped out the microphone cable on the snare 5 minutes into a 10 minute song. wantin to keep that take i replaced all the missing drum hits with the best snare hit from earlier in the take and it sounds EXACTLY like a gimp biqsuick song or whatever other Nu-Metal band out today sounds like. then i tried soundreplacer... made the job a LOT easier and does exactly what the person wants to do. its also great for saving face [the drummers, not yours] for a really incosistant drummer
