    Xigaa,

Where in Alaska? I went on a cruise up the inside passage about two years ago. I ended up particularly smitten with Sitka!

    Unhappy

    Nika:

I'm in Skagway, just northeast of Sitka, and it's hard to find gear here. Bad cable? No problem, your studio is back in shape in four days. Four long days.

I appreciate your advice, and work on these boards. It's a great help to rookies like me.

    Lance,

    Ahh, yes. I remember Skagway.

I'm an amateur woodworker, and I was looking for some good western red cedar or spruce or something to carve a bowl out of when I got back home. I went to the lumber store in Skagway and I asked if they had any good blocks of wood like that. Nope. Here we are surrounded by majestic trees for thousands of miles and they don't have any wood?

I went to Sitka and they did. They said they just got a shipment of it in from Skagway.

    Alpha,

I have a wood lathe in the garage. I like turning small boxes and bowls for relaxation. That's all. I haven't done it since Avery was born, though.

I'm talking about round boxes with a lid.

You carve a piece of wood into a cylinder. Then you carve the shape of the top on top, and separate it off.

Then dig out the rest, but make sure that, while you do that, the lid still matches up. Then you have a round box. That's all.

    Smile Intro

    Hi,

I'm george, I am a BS mechanical engineer.
I am a musician, singer/songwriter, etc. guitar is my specialty though I play bass also and can play drums somewhat but never could keep that kick drum part tight so better to hire a good jazz drummer to play for me.
been playing guitar for 25 years.

I have a nice studio which is a hobby but I approach it like it's more serious. it's what I enjoy and it keeps me sane. i've learned the engineering part(ongoing of course) out of neccesity.
I really love songwriting, and producing my work and playing all the parts myself - the engineering part is a pain in the butt to me.

and in all honesty, I wish i could quit with mechanical engineering and make a living as a songwriter - I'm working on it.

i'm stephen, and i'm located about 35 miles east of alphajerk on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains in beautiful western NC...

i'm a guitarist, singer and songwriter that's leaned more toward blues, funk, soul, and classic rock and r'n'b these last twelve years...i recently retired a 7 peice affair with horns and B-3 a few months ago to spend more time with recording and songwriting...my main studio is in my residence, but i am well equipped to record 16 tracks on location. i've spent the largest part of the mobile allotment on good mics and front end...

i have been hosting a blues radio show on public station WNCW 88.7 FM(www.wncw.org) for 10 years now...shows are available on the web...we rotate hosts, and i'll be on again 09/15...tune me in if you can...8PM-12AM...it's called the Saturday Night House Party

i've been splitting my recording time lately with mobile work and CD duping for others, and demoing tunes for my next band project with the emphasis on original material.

when i have any spare time, i like to flyfish for wild trout in remote places, and i like to ogle women...

    glad to be here,

    SRB

I'm Jay a professionally trained recording engineer. That doesn't mean I can spell though. I graduated from Full Sail some years back, then worked at Smart Studios in Madison, WI for a while. Now I have my own project studio in Neenah, WI. Nice to meet everyone!

Well I guess it's my time to goof on Rishathra

Hi everyone I'm CJ from MI. I have a small but very nice studio in the three and a half bedrooms of the second story of my house. I don't have a degree in music at all but have been playing professionally for 17 years (I'm only 30...God I feel old now). Reading is not something I do in music ,however, I can play piano, bass, drums, trumpet, clarinet, sax, mouth harp, accordian, concertina, and good looking women by ear. Not to sound like I'm bragging but I wish I could read music....it's my downfall!
I'm using Motu 2408 with Logic Audio as my DAW and recently purchased from Sweetwater the new Tascam DM-24 digital mixing board. I started out in a polka band when I was 13 and after many styles and bands later am back playing in one of the most known polish style polka bands in the country...you're all like huh? It's fun.....I still get paid to play, drink beer, and chase woman...what can be more fun than that? So if you seen a cd or LP of a polka band you can bet I've had something or had some involvment with it in some way.....I'm definately not bragging now!....LOL
