    recording guitar without an amp

I have seen a lot of discussion about recording a guitar by picking the sound coming out from the speaker of an amplifier...so my question:"wich is the best way to record a guitar without a cabinet...which effect-preamp is best?

So I want to record direct in and use amplitude or other plug-in. What is the best way to record direct in. Through a DI box into mic input?. Plug guitar direct into high-Z mixer input? I've heard of splitting the signal, one to amp and one to board. What device do you use for this?

Just plugin directly to the mixer... you can always copy the track, and add a second plugin to reproduce the sound of using multiple amps.
