MOTU 2408mkIII PCIe and Intel Mac Pro

So I've got a problem. I just upgraded my set up, and I'm not getting any signal back and forth from the computer and the 2408mkIII. My system is as follows:

    Intel Mac Pro
    MOTU 2408mkIII PCIe
    Cubase 4
    Mackie Digital 8 Bus

Now when I run through the console to the 2408mkIII it picks up signal through ADAT lightpipe just fine, but it seems like my Mac and 2408mkII aren't communicating. Every once in a while when I boot up the computer the 2408 will switch to the right mode and seem to work fine. I just can't figure out how to get it to do this everytime. More often than not, it'll just stay in standalone mode and I don't get any ins or outs from the computer. If anyone knows anything about this problem, let me know.

    Thanks,
    Brent

    Hi,

in this case I must say it's good to read this, because I'm having the same strange problem and every tech guy I was talking to told me I must be crazy.
    My setup is different though:
    - MacPro 10.4.8,
    - MOTU 424 PCIe card + 2x2408mkIII
    - Logic7.2.3
    - Yamaha DM2000 Desk

After 3 weeks using this setup the connection from card to interfaces was dead. Only thing that helped was to move the crad to another slot on the MacPro. Again two weeks later the same thing again, this time I moved the card to slot 3. Two days ago slot 3 also gave up.
About 30 mins before the connection was gone, very strange routing things happened in the 2408. After switching off and on again, no connection.

I posted to MOTU and see if they know about this issue.

    Best regards,
    PL

yea, i've had some weird stuff happen as well. when it was working, before it decided to stop, the input and output lights were offset by 1, and weren't showing the correct signal path.

let me know if you can figure out a fix.

Another strange thing is in the system profiler. The PCI card info should read a card should be named with a number, and the card type should be "Audio". But instead it's named "pci-bridge" and the card type is "PCI-to-PCI-Bridge".

I'll post this to MOTU see what happens.

    Hi,

I was able to solve the problem (so far it works).
To test if it was a sw problem, I booted from an bootable clone created with CCC a few weeks ago. PCIe card and both 2408 did communicate right away. Even now when booting from my standard HD all is fine.
So it looks like OSX or the MOTU driver is mixing up the PCIe slot configuration.
Always after the MacPro comes back from Sleepmode, Midi and Audio react strange, sometimes the 2408s do not communicate with the pcie card. This was also the situation when I first had to move the card to another slot.

Good to see it's not an HW problem.
Hope it will fix your setup too.

    Best regards,
    PL

I can't seem to get them to communicate even with a reboot of everything. If I switch card slots it works but not consistently. It just seems like it's taunting me. Teasing me with these false pretenses that it can work, but just won't. Very frustrating.

You should get in touch with MOTU tech support. They are trying to find out why the system behaves like this, SW or HW.

I just sent them an email, so hopefully I'll be able to get something done with it. I'll let you know if anything works.

Is there still a issue with motu pci-e 2048 and intel mac pro's, or has it been resolved?

I notice this thread was in 2007, and since there have been no further replies, I'm hoping for the better
