    Roland Vs-2000 Question!

i recently got the roland vs-2000 workstation and it is a great machine. however, i am having trouble figuring out how to use the same effects on multiple tracks. whether i am recording or mixing with an effect, it seems as if one effect can only be used with one track. either that, or i can set it to the master mix, but then all of the tracks have that effect. for example, if i select effect 1 to record to track 1, how do i also set it to record to track 2? also, is there a way to set effects to different parts of an individual track, instead of the entire track?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

If you are inserting the effects in order to record through them, you can only use that effect on one track, like you said. However, I believe you can insert the left side of the effect into a particular channel and the right side of the effect into a different channel, but I think the effect settings for both sides would end up being the same. Not 100% sure about that...

If you are using the effects in a send/return set up for mixing, etc., you can access the aux sends for each channel and set them to your liking.

you guys helped out a lot with that, thanks. the only thing is that i haven't figured out if you can set up different patches of the same effect to one track, but i'm sure i'll get it eventually.

my other question is, say you have a track recorded and you want to have an effect on a certain piece of the track, but not the whole thing. like for example if i recorded a vocal track and later decided i wanted a part of it echoed but the rest of it regular. is there a way to do that?

you can insert an effect off one slot using the right side lets say and then use the left side of the effect for another track...like eq for example...
Also on your other question you can use automix to change effects or anything for that matter anywhere in the song...

One thing...you owe it to yourself to join the vs planet...that is a forum where people like you who own the vs 2000 can talk to other people about anything with the vs 2000...the guys are great there and they are more than willing to help you ...just type in vs planet and prepare to learn...

    have a good day

Since no one else has answered...

I can't guarantee the VS-2000 works the same way, but on the VS-1680 you hold down the "record" (not sure what they call it - it's the one that turns red when in record mode) button on the channel you want to route to - the display will show a graphic illustrating the current connections with a series of lines. You can connect or disconnect these by then pressing the input button on the source channels, while holding down the channel's record button. The fader for the "source" channel controls input level. It's been a while since I used mine, but I think that's how it works.
