Long story short- Sweetwater sold me a Marantz PMD 660- beautiful sound with me and guitar or keyboard in room- forget about loud band rehearsals or gigs- too much clipping, distortion, regardless of mics used because internal preamps can't handle the volumes. I've watched new toys appear on the scene- Edirols, M-Audio's, more Marantz's- and a Boss 600 which looks promising (But no phantom power). I am not in the least bit interested in bootlegging any concerts or recording interviews or "nature sounds"- I am a musician, and wish to document my band's progress, hopoefully burn a few cd's we can be proud of. What is out there now that'll do the job for us? Or do we wait..? I want something compact, no laptop w/interface, gave up on cassettes- will the Edirol R-9 be worth it, or maybe that Boss 600?...
