I didn`t get a chance to read the replies...
Is the signal getting to the EFX box? If so, run the output of that into an AUX return or send it directly into a channel for more control.

Save another grand and then get yourself the Great River NV-MP2 (2 channel mic pre). Or you could also get yourself an Apogee A/D/A convertor.
I agree with JP-
I would get an Apogee A/D convertor first. Yes, mics and pres will definitely upgrade your sound but for now, the convertor will make the biggest splash.

Hey Jammin`
I just ordered the Mackie 1402 (the new model). Considering you really don`t need that many inputs or outputs, this may suit your needs as well and from what I have heard, the mic pres...
I realized I didn`t answer your question. When you are mixing next time, try strapping a compressor across to stereo bus to mimic what mastering will do. Then when you are ready to throw the mix onto...
Actually during the compression/limiting process, volumes of individual instruments do get affected.
For example, lets say your lead vocals are about 3db louder than the next loudest instrument...
I`m a MAC person so...
It sounds like you need something with a small footprint that will do just about everyhting for you.
I`d get the Apple Powerbook with Digital Performer and the MOTU...
I`m wondering what you decided to do. I`m selling my d8b for $4000. Comes with the CODA desk and I`m kicking in an Aphex Aural Exciter. I don`t need all of its features because I`m producing my own...
I agree with Randy. Get two mics for variety. With that budget you can get very nice mics but even for half that you can get an equally impressive mic so get two!
Two mics are ggreat but don`t...
1 Audix 6 Kick (Drum)
1 AKG D112 ((Bass amp / kick drum)
2 Shure Sm 57 (Snare)
2 AT 4050s (OHs)
1 Neumann TLM 103 (vocals/acoustic gtrs)
2 Radio Shack mics (then 2 MD 421s (toms))
1 RE 20...
I USE THE NATIVE GOLD BUNDLE WHICH INCLUDES ALL THE PLUGS YOU MENTIONED. IMO, WAVES ARE THE BEST PLUGS AND AN UNBELIEVEABLE BUY. I TOO USE THE L1 MAXIMIZER ON EVERY MIX.
ACTUALLY THIS IS WHAT THE...
PRE AMPS ARE KEY
IT ALSO HELPS TO HAVE SOME NEUMANNS (I DON`T CARE ABOUT THESE COMPANIES WHO SAY THEIR MICS STAND UP TO MEUMANNS, BASICALLY YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
CONVERTORS HELP BUT HONESTLY...
THE AUDIX 6 HAS BECOME MY FAVORITE KICK DRUM MIC. I WAS ACCUSTOMED TO THE SHURE AND THE AKG MICS MY PRODUCED MIKED THE KICK WITH THE AUDIX AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MADE. IMO, IT...
I don`t know what your level of writing is but it doesn`t hurt to listen to more music, especially the stuff that you want to write. I actually listen to the style of music I want/need to write and...
Great thread. I`ve never used MIDI for Live Sound, however MIDI is MIDI. A couple of questions for you and we can help you out some more:
1.) First I would recommend a LAPTOP. This will come in...

Hey Vajeeta,
I agree. The Genelecs are great, especially the 32s. At $4gs for a pair though, the 824s are a bargain. I`ve worked with the Gen 32s and later purchased the 824s. To my ear, the 824s...
Yup, this is a debate that won`t go away simply because so many are writing and recording sub par songs. I am one of those who feel that it doesn`t really matter what monitors you use, even though I...
I use Waves plugs, especially the L1 Maximizer and Renaissance compressor. Outstanding plugs.
Let me know if you`re interested...I`m willing to master a track gratis and if your happy with it, I...
I used to use the same technique. Now I just put up two mics and record guuitar stereo. Gives me a great sound and I control the EQ from the positioning of the microphones.
Peace,
Ernest
Currently I own a MACKIE d8b w/ DIGITAL PERFORMER as the DAW & Tape Deck. I also use the 2408 and have ADATs (which I do not remember the last time I used them). I am considering switching mixers...
Malottsw,
I think thats a smart move. With the power of DAWs today, there is little need for the additional mixer.

Yupe, this thread is seriously becoming a quick joke. The questions Scoot brought up are essential and its just not sounding like there is much thought going into any of this. Its absolutely a must...
