The Audio Dictionary by Glenn White
Make Mine Music - Bruce Swedien
I'd definitely recommend Modern Recording Techniques. It does a good job of covering the basics in a variety of subjects (DAWs, Midi, Microphones, Acoustics, Basic Audio, etc.)
I found this free e-book on drum tuning. It can go a long way to making better recordings.
