I have a Titanium G4 Powerbook 550 with 512 ram. I am looking to set up my recording system on it. I have researched a lot and know and understand some of the options ( 828, Wami, various USB set ups ) I also have a SCSI to Firewire adaptor. My question is this, are there any hardware setups sold that I can take advantage of the SCSI to Firewire and gain more inputs/midi versus a 828 or Metric Halo straight Firewire system? Any and all help would be cool.

Since Firewire will support multiple devices, it isn't limiting your ability to do multiple simultaneous tracks, only the 40MB/sec. bandwidth will limit you (I know you can get at least 32 tracks, maybe a lot more). The firewire to SCSI bridge is limited to the same bandwidth - no increase there. However, you have a cardbus slot which will allow you to use a breakout Magma PCI chassis (I think it'll handle 6 slots) which you can fill with MOTU 1224s or 1296s or whatever multichannel PCI cards you like. Of course, by the time you buy the chassis & fill it with cards it will have cost you more than twice as much as your TiBook... :D
