hi there, new here, so feel free to respond with links to other forum posts or websites with more info...

my ibook g3 700MHz had some problems recently with corrupted files. i had it fixed with DiscWarrior and it seems to be fine for the moment.
I was working on some audio projects in Cubase SX (all the files are stored on an external HD) and now, the files that i had worked on most recent to the computer crashing seem to be corrupted.
they start to open in Cubase, and then they cause the app to quit unexpectedly.
other files work fine and the app itself is fine (i reinstalled it).

Any ideas here? these tracks represent months and months of work.
thanks!

It's a good idea to save incremental copies of your Cubase project files to help recover from these situations. You should be routinely creating backups, especially tracks representing "months and months" of work.

That said, I had one circumstance on my PC (not Mac) where I had some problems opening a project. I copied the project folder and contents to another folder and was able to open. I am at a loss to expalin why this worked.

I constantly checkpoint my work by creating backups, eliminating old takes, committing tracks with multiple events and automation by bouncing, create copies of original tracks and place in a backup folder, disabling all the backup tracks and insert effects, etc.

It is imperative that your workflow include a backup and recovery scheme that suits your hardware and workflow. It should only take one loss of a lot of creative effort to convince you.

If you are lucky, all your audio files are still intact and only the project is corrupted. Still this represents a lot of loss of insert effects, event location, automation, tempo track, etc.

My advice, start a backup plan immediately and stick to it religiously.

Try using the open file screen. Once you get into that screen, make sure you are set to view all files and not just cpr files. You may have a ton of incremental backup files that don't readily make themself visible:)

no incremental backup files, unfortunately.
Dave, thanks for the advice, needless to say that i will do all in my power to stop this from happening again. i thought i was protected since all the files were on my external drive.

any other possibilities here people? PLEASE!
