Hi all,

I run gigastudio 160 on computer A and a sequencer on computer B. Does anyone know how I can connect them together other than a midi and audio interface (maybe firewire or ethernet). I need to transfer 64 midi channels from sequencer to gigastudio and 16 audio channels from gigastudio to sequencer simultaneously.

I have a separate midi interface (MOTU) and audio interface currently. To many wires for me. Is there a way I can connect both computers with one cable?

Thankyou in advance.

Leif, sounds to me like you are talking about networking these two computers. You didn't mention what type of computers you are running, Macs or PC, hopefully they are both the same. Small "home" networking solutions are available and no longer an expensive proposition. A small network would allow you to access either computer's hard drives from whichever you are working on. It might be the best solution all the way around. This comes from my perspective as a computer person. Maybe some of the audio engineer types know of a way to use what you mentioned. Good luck!

Fortunately you are in luck. I know WAY more than I ever wanted to know about Gigastudio160. Networking is one thing. Networking MIDI is a different story. The only way I know to do this is with a MTP from MOTU. (This assumes that your using a MAC for doing the Sequencing and a PC for Gigastudio) The MTP should be set in PC Mode. (Details are covered in our knowledge base on our site.) Now all that said I'm not sure why you aren't just doing the sequencing on the same machine. Sequencing takes very little processing power and will not introduce any of the latency you will get with either networking or MIDI interfaces. If you have further questions give me a call and I can help you offline.

I run both Sibelius Notation Software and Infinity (Sound Quest) together on one computer. I filter the midi events from Sibelius through Infinity in real time. I am currently using Infinity as a huminisation element to the Sibelius files for up to 45 midi shannels simultaneoiusly (full orchestra). Sibelius uses a lot of CPU power, not to mention Gigastudio with up to 160 streaming voices!

I run two PCs both over 1.00 Ghz.

Cheers

I'm going out on a limb a little because I'm not familiar with infinity. I'm also a little unclear as to whether Sibelius is your sequencer or what your sequencing program is. I hate to say it, but at this point there is probably no way to reliably connect the two machines. I'm going to check a couple of things and run some tests to see if I can make it fly somehow and will post back here in a couple of days. Were your audio machine a Mac you would have much better chances. Perhaps you can fill me in on this infinity program, and how you're working?

Thanks for the feedback.

Take a look at the Sound Quest Site for Infinity. Basically, I use it as a midi manipulation program to add some spice to the midi files created by Sibelius Notation Software. However, Infinity is a powerful object orientated environment capable of developing samplers, synths and just about anything midi or audio! It is quite easy to use at a basic level.

I only use the basics at the moment. I sent midi out - Sibelius to midi in - Infinity. Then midi out - Infinity to midi in - samplers etc.

Thanks for looking into my problem.
