Please --- flat out, what is the best multi track software for win XP using a sound blaster audigy card- I only using an acoustic guitar and mic on this PC.

Sonar Xl just does not want to configure right- I have had nothing but problems- Vegas Audio seems to work sometimes then others it does not want to cooperate.

Any Ideas??? Thanks

I'm assuming you want to use WINXP because you are using the computer for other applications other than those related to doing audio. If this is the case let me shed some obvious, but sometimes not so obvious light on this. Don't get gripped by operating systems. The Audio Industry is very small and most of your top professional programs take a while to begin working with current operating systems. I'm always of the mind that it's best to have what's current from a support standpoint, but that said usually the most current has very little support and once it's supported then something else is coming. That's the way of computers. To those doing audio on a machine that shouldn't really be a concern. We're used to a microphone or preamp or effects box being a long term consistent piece as engineers and studio owners so being "stuck" with an older operating system is no big deal if it works and is stable. I say all this to let you know I'd recommend a previous operating system that is tried and stable if configured properly versus all the marketing jargon of this new system being better than the last (which seems to be a theme to get more money out of our pockets from Microsoft with little advantage at the end of the day). If you have other programs that are not audio related then do a dual boot system and partition the drive with XP on one side of the OS Drive and something like 98 on the other half. I have yet to see a properly configured 98 system work. When things pan out if you still want to upgrade to XP for doing audio then more power to you. Hope this was helpful. I look forward to seeing more questions like this up here.

Thanks Jeff-

I decided on getting a second PC loaded with 98 and using it for audio alone- I have Sonar XL Sound forge 5 and Vegas audio- I like this now!

So now here is another question for ya- assuming I already have a PC which I do- and further assuming I have about 2 - 3k that I would like to dedicate pc based audio equipment- What do you reccomend in the line of hardware and software??

Thanks!

Michael

I try to stay away from product specific discussion on the forum from my end; for various reasons. It may help one individual but discourage someone else from looking at a product that is not right for you, but may be perfect for them. Give me a call or shoot me a private message and we can discuss your particular and specific needs. Anyone else can feel free to do this as well in the future.

just thought id toss in what works great for me:
dual boot xp and 2k with 2k for all the audio stuff --
i run NUENDO, wavelab 3, VST32 5.0, sound forge 5, SONAR, rebirth, recycle, and logic 4.7.
99.9% of the time, im in NUENDO and WAVELAB -- i love em

Check out n-Track at http://www.fasoft.com

It's inexpensive, powerful and intuitive. Runs great on my Win2K machine.
