Hello.

I have to use a Rode K2 and a Focusrite Voicemaster Pro for a spoken word project. My other choice is a Presonus Eureka.

I have to crank up the gain on the pre-amp almost all the way. Is the impedance specs below the reason?

Rode K2
Input Impedance = 200 Ohms

Voicemaster Pro
Input Impedance = 1K4 Ohms

I'm not real familiar with all this stuff. But I thought I read something similar somewhere.

Does 1K4 Ohms mean 1400 ohms?

(I'm not using the phantom power since the mic has it's own power supply.)

Thanks.

Yes, 1k4 Ohms means 1.4 kOhms, or 1400 Ohms. These are relatively typical impedances and shouldn't be a problem. Spoken word stuff is notorious for requiring a lot of gain so go ahead and turn the preamp up. That's what those knobs are for by the way. If there were only one place to set the knobs then we wouldn't need them.
