Using Outboard gear while tracking...

hey guys,

When recording vocals and other instruments using the PreSonus Firebox, I'd like to be able use some of my outboard effects (delay/reverb) in the headphones alone as reference for the final sound. I understand how it works with a larger setup (console, headphone amp, interface, etc) but I'd really prefer to be able to work this solely with the FireBox.

Is there a way I can route these effects to use as headphone reference, but only record the dry signal?

Use an XLR splitter and send your dry vocal for recording to the first channel, and the split to the second input. Then use the insert point on your second channel to add anything you want, and just don'trecord the second channel. Another way is to set up a second channel in Cubase with the same input as the one you are recording. Take the fader to 0, activate the input monitoring, and setup your FX on a prefade auxilliary send (FX channel). There may be a better way with the Firepod, but I am not familiar with them, I just know that they have insert points. However, both the methods I described should work just fine.
