hey guys, a local store around here got my order of an eventide eclipse, chandler tg2, and a royer r121(sorry sweetwater, but this local store was having a huge sale.). yeah, i had to wait almost 4 weeks for this stuff to come in because they didn't want to sell the floor models:( , but the main point is THEY'RE HERE!
i've spent ALL DAY using this stuff. first the chandler: this thing is amzaing. it's my number one favorite preamp for guitar. it's similiar but still very very different from my great river. the chandler seems a bit more agressive, it's also warmer. it seems like it has a thicker midrange without the high end that sometimes gets irritating when i use the great river on certain instruments. i also like the way this sounds on drum overheads. i think i'm going to use these on overheads and API's on the rest of the kit for the session i'm doing tomorrow.
next up: the royer. everyone was 100% right, this is THE guitar mic. it's everything i want in a guitar sound. it picked up the el84 'swirl' of my ac30 better than any mic, ever.
lastly: the eventide. man this thing is DEEP. it can do pretty much anything i want it to. i've been using this both in a mesa trem-o-verbs fx loop and in the more traditional recording way through the board. it excels at both. i'm sure the guitarists that i record will thank me.
so in conclusion, i was right to think this stuff ruled when i tried it out. guitarists that use my studio are going to have big grins when they're done (i hope). well, i just thought i'd share my thoughts. hopefully this will help anyone who's looking at these pieces.
ps-do you think the eventide will help bring more business due to it being one of those brands that non-gearheads know to be real good?
