Help! I recently began having problems when running Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. I have a Compaq Perserio 5716, Event Gina soundcard, Emagic MT-4 USB Midi interface, and an S3 Savage GT-4 video adapter. The problem is that my system locks up very frequently causing me to have to restart the computer. The problem seemed to start after I installed the MT-4 interface and drivers but I'm not sure if that is the problem. I've tried updating my video driver, MT-4 driver, Gina driver, and I've installed the latest ROM updates from Compaq but I'm still no closer to resolution. Other things I've tried are changing video from 32 to 16 bit. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Clark

What Operating System are you using? I would use either Windows 98 Second Edition or windows 2000.

Go to Windows update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com ) and download all the patches for your operating system. Also cakewalk has released a couple of patches, that you should install as well. Delete all the unused garbage from your system, remove excess programs from the startup group. If you still have the OEM install on your system (the one that came when you bought the computer, you might want to wipe out your hard drive and reload the operating system from scratch (Backup your files first) And just install the programs you need.

I'm using Windows 98 ver 4.10. I'll check Micorsoft site for updates or patches. I've got a Compaq Perserio 8000 on order (hopefully it should arrive this week) so I probably will wait to see how things operate on it before I reinstall Windows on my current puter.

Thanks and I'll let you know how things go.
