Hey everyone,
Nika, i just saw your picture and bio in the new sweetwater flyer i opened today. That was pretty cool.
Okay, here's my deal. I have a digi001, and i need more inputs! I use 6 from my alesis studio 32 board, and have been trying to get my hands on an alesis ai3 for about 2 months now. Does anyone else know of another optical unit that i could use, and still record 24 bit?
I just discovered this board tonight. I'm looking very forward to asking alot of you very stupid questions to fulfill my quest for knowledge in the wonderful world of digital audio!

hmmm... I wonder if Alesis is even going to MAKE the Ai3 anymore.. they have been in some pretty interesting times lately...
I'm in a similar situation as you and I have been looking REALLY hard at the Digimax.. that thing just looks AMAZING! and it's only one rackspace! pretty hip considering that I could really use some decent pres too.. hmmmm,

If you want to spend a little more cash you can get a Tango 24 from Frontier Designs. It is a little more robust than the Ai3 and has word clock. If you need more information, just contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer or call me.

yeah the downside with the AI3 is no word clock...which (correct me if i'm wrong) means you can't use it along with another adat i/o unit at the same time or you will have clock problems.

yes and no. You CAN use multiple ADATs with one of them attached to an AI3 if all the ADATs are clock synced to the BRC's video clock input (to answer it exactly, I would need to know the exact total setup that you wanted to acheive). Or short of that you could lock all the ADATs together with the AI3 using the AardSyncII and a SyncDA... It gets pretty complicated. I agree that the DigiMax is an awesome unit that does have clock i/o... it would be simpler and you would also have 8 extra killer mic pres.....(not to mention a limiter and smiley face eq circuit...)

There's a ai-3 on that popular auction website in the moment. I was wanting one for awhile, but think I'll opt for the fostex in the long run, I don't have 24 bit equipment and think of my 16 bit as compression at this point.

I agree with all above who say go for the Digimax by Presonus. It is a great way to go to just add extra digital inputs at 24 bit. I almost went that way intil Mr. Jenkins talked me into buying the new digital 24 channel Tascam DM-24( for somewhere around the $2,500.00 mark) which has 16 great mic pres at 24 bit all the way through...nia nia nia NIA nia nia :D Also Anteres mic and speaker modeler comes instaled along with TC Works Megaverb. I can't wait to get this little puppy! Come on Alexander is there anyway I can get it faster? I'll drive to wherever to get it...LOL
