Im thinking of getting the yamaha 01v and gina 24, using the adat interface with a PC. EVERYTIME I ask for intelligent input, or the faults of this setup, I always get some dumbass to reply: "GET A MAC" " PC SUCKS". So on and so on. So, this time I will say this first, I understand why PRO's use MAC based systems. They have the money. MAC systems are of course more stable. I KNOW. I've been building and fixing PC's for a LONG time and know that. It is not a question of mac or pc, I HAVE a pc and HAVE the software. If there is a problem I can fix it, and have done many projects on pc sytems. I see the pro's and con's of both. I have used a motu on both mac and pc. And motu is awesome on a MAC, but horrible on a pc. I really like the echo products on pc. Since I already have a 1.6 xp athlon and 2 70 gig 7200 rpm hd, with 512 ddr ram, what do you guys think about the yamaha 01v digital mixer's preamps and the gina 24 using the aqdat interfaces for a complete drum kit? Do you think the 20 bit conversion on the mic pre's in the 01v would make that big of a difference for a loud drum kit instead of 24-bit? What would be the best way to route this sytem? Thanks,
btw to hear my bands recording goto www.gearboxismusic.com
it was mixed in nuendo on a pc. Tell me what you think.

Eric,
First of all, PC's do... JUST KIDDING! :-) I'm a long-time PC guy and also a Macintosh convert so I both share your love and pain. The only problem that you "may" encounter is Athlons use a particular chipset known as VIA. The sad thing is, most Intel CPU-based motherboards are starting to use this as well.... they can be very unreliable and incompatible too. However, you have the system and we need to get you into something that will work on that system. You definitely have the horsepower!! :-) By the way, I like the tunes (listening to FALLEN). You may want to check the guitar frequencies, they are lacking mid-crunch and high-end clearity.
As for the 01V, this is a great digital mixer and is our best-selling. It's used by not only home and small project studios, but by many professionals the world-over. So the Gina24 card has an ADAT i/o on it? We do not carry Echo products and I've not seen the Gina in years but if you like it and it has ADAT lightpipe, why not. Don't worry about the 20-bit converters on the 01V, that's only a number. The amount of headroom on the 01V is significantly better than many other products in its range...it sounds great. The 01V will also allow you to automate the faders inside of Nuendo.
Okay, here's where I am going to throw you a curveball. Since you'r using Nuendo, why don't you consider getting the HOUSTON or SAC-2K control surface with the Aardvark Direct Pro Q10? This will run you a little bit more money and you don't have a full mixer in front of the computer, but these control surfaces will give you considerably more capability within the Nuendo environment. Also by adding the UAD1 DSP card or the TC Works Powercore, you'll be experiencing a whole new world of effects, compressors, etc.
hope this helps!! :-)
