I am a pro drummer and need to record drums. Ive built a AMD athlon 1.6 266fsb, 512 ddr ram, with 2 80 gig 7200 rpm hd's. I use sekd samplitude. I am thinking that the best way for me to go is with the yamaha 01v digital mixer and a echo gina 24. Id use the adat from the mixer into adat into the gina. Im still not sure on mics. Can anyone comment on the ups and downs of this setup? Ive thought about this alot and found this to be the most cost effective way to have 12 good mic pre's, and dynamics on every channel. Also this o1v is going for about 800$ on ebay. and the gina 24 for about 350$. And if anyone has any suggestions for mics also.

I just sold my O1v so I do know it is a nice mixing board. The main draw back is that it only sends out 8 channels of I/O and the A/D converters are are 20 bit. The board is nice don't get me wrong so I would get the O1v esp if you can get it that low.
As for the Gina, I would skip that and go with a trusted name in sound cards/ interface like the MOTU 2408. This is the card/ interface I use and it great for the money. I think new it is around a grand, so I'm sure you can find it for a decent price on ebay. I've never used the program you've got but have heard ok things about it.
If you are on a budget for mics try the Rhode mics for condenser overheads, they are decent quality; I use Nuemann TLM 103s. Use a sure 57 on the top snare head and I'd use a ATM 35...click here....http://www.sweetwater.com/store/results.tpl?action=full&--eqskudatarq=ATM35&Criteria=Results&infomode=infoon on the bottom of the snare along with the tom tops. This will give you an awesome sound.

Thanks, I have a friend who has the gina and says it sounds great. I really don't need a motu, plus the motu tend to suck on the pc side. For 350 dollars it seems to be the best price for the I/O I need. Plus the WDM and ASIO drivers are out of beta for 2k.
Do you think the 20bit AD converters on the o1v would make a HUGE difference in a drum situation? Because when I go to record bass and guitar I could use a direct box straight into the gina which would have the 24bit AD converters.
So could I with the gina use the 2 in's with two outs on the 01v making it so i could record 10 tracks at ounce. wich is exactly how many I need for my kit. I could certainly live with 8 but would prefer 10.
As for mics (I have a pearl srx session select 8', 10', 12', and 14' toms. and 22 bass with 2 16inch crashes, a 18 china and 22 inch ride. ) I would like to mic 3 overhead one on the hihat, and 2 mics on the snare. I was thinking about the akg clip-on makes that go for about 500$ for 4 and a akg kick mic. Not sure on condenser mics but I would like nice ones.

that's what I use in my studio and it sounds great.....better than the Gina. whoever told you that must have a bogged down PC. Neither is full blown profession grade but the MOTU is better ask the sales at Sweetwater.
