I'm about to embark on my first documentary, and have been deciding on the gear to use.

I have a camera and workstation set up, but need some advice on mic choice.

I'll have to use a mic with a fairly tight pattern to get rid of excess noise, and something that can be used as a boom, or camera mounted.

After taking a look around, the Audio Technica ATR55 looks good, it has a switchable uni-directional/hyper-cardiod pattern.

Any experiences or suggestions? They would be very much appriciated. Thanks!

thanks! All those look great; I didn't even think about rode mics.

Hopefully I'll be able to post some of my work when i'm done. Thanks again.
