First, I prefer passive. More headroom, less headache, easier repairs. Second, i wouldn't expect too much out of FBT. If however you are on a tight budget without high expectations, you may not have much of a choice.

I also prefer passive. Since you're in the Caribbean, I'd check out Alto or Phonic as they have a greater latin-american presence.

Samson Resolv 65 passive can be found in the $100 range.

Hey, the Samson Resolv65 can be had for about $200/pair. do you have a power amp already? if not, don't forget to factor that in.

Also. 9 out of 10 pairs of studio monitors that I sell to home/project studios are Active. no fuss, no muss.. just plug and play, and the amps are tuned to the enclosure for maximum performance. You don't have to worry about matching up wattage with an amp, repairs to them aren't really an issue unless you buy used, and headroom is decent. Passives may be great, and if you have a good amp to go with them it can be killer; just make sure you don't under-power them.
