so I keep getting conflicting reports on DP3... will it actually save to a Pro Tools file? Does it actually do surround? How the heck do they do that on a host based system? I mean... wouldn't your output bus have 6 tracks on it, so if you were to have a compressor on it, it would actually be 6 compressors? this is how it works in PT land... and 6 channel reverbs? I can't think of a computer alive today that could handle a 6 channel reverb and all the other crap I would want it to do at the same time.
I'm not trying to knock DP or MOTU at all.. but what is the real deal?

Yes to all I think. It supposedly can import a Pro Tools session and export it back to Pro Tools session. I am not a Pro Tools user so I can not testify to its functionality. As for Surround, it does have that capabilty but I have not used it yet.

If DP and MOTU can pull off an export import of a ProTools Session it will be HUGE! I am a ProTools TDM user and I can't tell you the number of people that are big DP fans. There are plenty out there and there is definately a need for this kind of intersession compatibiltiy.
People are qwirky and like the sequencer they like for whatever reasons. However, at the end of the day you still need to be able to work with other people. This would help make that much easier. Paris has already implemented ProTools file transfer support. So, perhaps MOTU is just following suit. Is Logic next?

Yes, DP3 can read and write OMF format, which Pro Tools can also read and write, if you have the Digidesign utility "Digi Translator". Raw Pro Tools files must first go thru Digi Translator before they come into DP3.
