Hey,

I've just reinsalled XP Pro with SP2. I was doing the tweaks and I got this Error Message while I was trying to turn off System Restore.

System Restore

You have chosen to turn off System Restore. If you continue, all existing retore points will be deleted, and you will not be able to track or undo changes to

your computer.

Do you want to turn off System Retore?

Yes No

Systme Restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try again.

OK

I tried the old reboot, but got the same message. Has anyone has this problem? Is this an SP2 thing?

Thanks,

SP2 totally put my machine out of whack when I installed it. I went back to SP1 and have been problem free just like I was before SP2.

I've not encountered this error before.

Usually I try typing the error code or exact text into the Microsoft.com support Knowledge Base.

http://support.microsoft.com/

You can also go to Google and put a bit of the error text in quotes to find a website about that error.

Thanks gentlemen,

I got it all working. What had happened (believe it or not) is that my XP Pro SP1 disk from Dell had become corrupted.

I went through a 3 week period trouble shooting every possibility until all had been eliminated except my disk. I would had looked at the disk as the problem sooner, but I couldn't believe that a CD ROM could go south. Microsoft, much to their credit spent hours working with me on the phone until we figured out what was wrong.

Got a new SP1a disk from Dell. Installed . Installed SP2. Loaded up all my apps and everything has been bullet proof since.
