All,

I am a newbie to both the digital recording world and the Digi 001 world. That said, I am rapidly falling in love with both. My church recently purchased such equipment to record our worship services, and myself and one other gentlemen get the privalege of using it for that purpose. I find myself in a situation where I am overwhelmed by the amount of features that PT LE and the 001 offer. I have the Waves Native bundle, and am utterly amazed at the number of plug-ins and options it has to use. Before buying the system I researched the 001, plug-ins, and even visited a local studio, so I had a slight idea of what I was getting into. My question is this: is there an online tutorial or book available that will help me "take the plunge" into the world of digital recording. Additionally, is there anyone out there donig live worship service recording on a 001? I'd be very interested in any feedback or words of advice that you can offer.

Considering the equipment you mentioned this book will really help you. It is specifically targeted at new 001 users.

There are some other more generic recording books we sell as well. One good one is The Musician's Home Recording Handbook.

You can difinetly track your worship service. I had an older Tascam 8 bus console, an ADAT and a DAT machine. I used all the analog inputs on the Digi 001, ran 8 more channels into the ADAT, strictly for the converters, then ran the light pipe out of the ADAT into the Digi; I ran two more analogs into the DAT machine, again just for the converters, then tool the S/PIF out of the DAT to the Digi. Incredibly, I could track all 18 inputs simultaneously. Granted, I had to submix and compromise some isolation (we have a pretty big worship band) but I was still blown away! I have a G4/400 w/640 megs of RAM. We came in on Monday and mixed in ProTools, then flew the audio over to Premiere for our weekly TV broadcast. Maybe that's a little too much info. Sorry.

WOW! That's incredible. We will be bringing six of the eight inputs off from the aux sends on our console, and leave the other two for special mics or things like that. At the present time, we don't have ADAT or light pipe capability. Not to say we won't get it down the road... Sounds like your setup was much more serious than ours is. Did you use a separate recording console or did you feed the 001 from direct outs / aux sends / etc? How much mixing and editing did you have to do once you had the audio in PT?

Thanx!

Can someone tell me a happy medium to set up quantization in pro tools LE? I'm getting nowhere-bought the D Franz book-don't reccommend it. I've quantized on many, many other devices and I can't get the hang of it. When I lay down tracks-or try to correct on playback. I could really use some help. Thanks

Jeff - yeah - we split our house signal back to the Tascam 8 bus console I mentioned which gave us quite a bit more flexibility. Once we had it in PT, we mostly just polished it off with AutoTune, and Bomb Factory compressors. By the way, Fostex makes an inexpensive ADAT convertor box (VC8) which will give you access to the additional 8 digital inputs on the Digi. It's about $300. (No, I'm not a Sweetwater rep. ha.) And though I couldn't find it on the website, there is also a similar box that does the same with the S/PDIF connectors. I think it runs about $250.

I have a Fostex VC-8 which I'm trying to get rid of. I just updated my setup so I have no need for it now. Give me an email if you interested. I can even supply you it with US transformer. Still in box with manuals and high quality light pipe for say $220 incl. shipping.
