I am looking to buy a software package for recording/sequencing on the PC and I also need to get some decent software synths (at the very least, I need something with General Midi). Obviously, it would be cost effective to purchase a package that comes with good soft synths, but I can't figure out which packages come with what. Does cubase come with any soft synths, and are they good? What about logic audio? I hear that Sonar does, but are they good?

Should I consider purchasing a soft synth package (or 2) seperately to take care of my needs?

Thanks!

It's funny you should mention Logic Audio. We just received word yesterday that Emagic is running a special promotion through the end of the year that if you purchase Logic Audio Gold (like $375 I think) you get the EXS24 sampling software for free!!! This is a fairly big savings and will get you into the world of both a professional level sequencer, digital audio recording, and a state of the art sampling program. There are also various soft synths available too. What sort of sounds are you in need of? If you email me directly at brad_lyons@sweetwater.com I'll be sure to point you in the right direction.
