hey how do yall recomend transporting a sound setup?

we have a very basic setup with decent speakers, and I was worried about just putting them in a truck or tralier...what kind of precautions need to be taken? can you somehow package them to protect them? how hard would it be to ruin a speaker?

I'll be transporting everything, cables, mics, speakers, monitors, mixer, amps etc.

thanks :)

Touring speakers are tough. You don't need to worry about shocks embedding the voice coils into the magnets. If you are paranoid, tape some plywood over the grills to avoid impact damage. If you want to keep the covering looking nice, consider some soft cases. Otherwise, don't worry about it too much.

Get some good solid rack cases for your electronics, and touring cases for your cables and board. Pull out the stencils and have some fun labeling everything.

Then, most importantly, take a list of serial numbers, and a few pictures, down to your insurance company and get some coverage on your gear. Its a bit pricey, but covers many common problems. Imagine if somebody dropped a 2x18 subwoofer cabinet on their foot while helping you load in for 20 bucks :) Not sure about your area, but personal injury lawsuits are out of control here.

Trailers are good. Vans are good. If it is a big enough setup, snag a cube truck. Be aware that contents may shift during transit, and pack accordingly. If you go with a trailer, make sure you distribute the load evenly. You don't want to look like the idiot in a sport ute with 1000 pounds of tongue weight bottoming out the rear end of the vehicle. An intertial braking system is a good investment for trailering too.

my setups not that big :) I wish it were but this is just for praise and worship on a school trip..

When we do huge events, like concerts or so, when we have to carry monitor boards, mixers, huge speakers subs etc. we rent rider trucks, and all those things have specific boxes and stuff to make sure they stay protected..

but we'll just be toating 2 tripoded speakers, 3 monitors, a few amps, mixer and cables.... and none of them have specific boxes for them. Here are some pics of my setup. Is my rack okay enough to toat the board in? Do I need to pull the board out and put it in something more supportive?

I do moves like that for my church all the time. I have never had a problem with anything breaking down. We have had the same system for about 7 years. I usually just load up one of the 15 passenger vans with all the gear and move it all my self to make sure if someone drops one of the EAW's or Amp racks it is me and not some kid.

The short of it is, your rack should be good for a small move as long as it does not get banged around much. If you don't have enough space for a separate van just put it in the last few seats (make sure it won't fall) and threaten the kids with their lives if they touch the gear.:D  :D

As long as it is not abused it should be fine

I'm headed from Atlanta to st. augustine florida... not sure how long that is but shouldn't be more than 8 hours...

It's going to be rough finding a healthy spot for it.. I think they're going to put it in the trailer with suitcases :(

about protecting the grill... I have 2 of those JBLs, can I point them at each other in the car so that they are protecting each other? or will that cause the magnets to mess up? or would it have more of a risk of damaging?
