I have a Korg Triton Studio and I realized I want to do more sequencing on my PC rather then with the Triton. I have about $2000-3000 to play with. I want to be able to plug the Triton into some type of converter to my PC for sampling and sequencing. I was looking at the digidesign MX002 Mixer or MBOX using Pro LE Tools, and I was looking at something like using the E-MU Emulator X hardware and using Cubase. From your experience, what seems to be the best hardware/software combo? I know there are many others out there. I haven't had much experience with any of these products. I want to get my money's worth and not have to worry about spending anymore money for a while. I want to make sure the quality is as close to professional as possible. Any suggestions....

How do you feel about buying a mac? Because digital performer is where its at when it comes to sequencing in midi. You can get a fire wire 828 .If not I would recommend sonar for your pc instead.
hopes this helps.

Yeah, I keep seeing that Macs are the way to go for quality and perfection. Unfortanetly, I don't want to put most of that money towards a Mac at least at this time. I do have a 1.5 Ghz Centrino Processor (with Hyper Threading), 512MB RAM, 60GB Hard Drive in my laptop w/ Windows XP. I also have a desktop PC with a 2.1 Ghz Athalon processor, 512MB RAM, and a 80GB Serial ATA hard drive. Plus a eternal 80GB USB hard drive. Is Pro Tools not a good suggestion for a Windows based PC? I was actually thinking about getting an Mbox for now to familiarize myself with Pro Tools and get a AKAI MPC1000...

If what you plan to do is midi I would not recommend PT. You can sequence and do midi in PT but it is not the strong suit of the program. For a PC based sequencer I would take a look at sonar.
For the ultimate integration of audio and midi I still recommend Digital Performer. The only thing is that you would need a mac. Even more, if you get Mach 5 with it, you wont even need an external sampler.

If I get Sonar, what do you suggest for getting my Korg and MPC1000 connected to my PC?

If your PC has firewire ports then I would recommend the motu 828. It has two XLR/TRS direct inputs in the front pannel with phantom power. If you prefer the PCI version of sound cards, then you could look at some RME stuff which from what I hear sounds pretty good, but I have not personnally had any expeirience with them.

I've got my Korg Triton proX hooked up to Cubase SX2 through my aardvark q10...Any midi box will help you get the sequencing part taken care of. And as others have stated about performer, it really is a good program and if I owned a mac I'd be using it. Never have found a better sequencer for doing drum and rhythm sequences...But Cubase is great as well. Can't go wrong with Sonar since its a cakewalk company and they've been workin with midi right from the start, ah the old days of cakewalk pro audio
