I've come across a building that I'm considering turning into a recording space / apartment. It's two floors of 28'x90' each. I'm sure a lot of you will say "be careful with working and living in the same space" or "check with local codes" and such. I'm aware of that. Question is - I'm pretty interested in the floating room concept. I've actually been doing lots of online research. Some of it contradicts. Like one source said start with a floor floated on neoprene and build the floated walls ON that floor and the ceiling ON those walls. Another source said start with the floated walls and do NOT connect the floated floor - etc. I'm also sure I'll get a "contact an architect" - which I surely will do at some point. But - anyone have any great online resources or personal comments - advice - etc? Any online studio designs or layouts? Thanks much!

check studiotips.com for some tips but more importantly access to the acoustics mailing list. A lot of folks on that list are quite knowledgable and will be able to assist you.

You should never have your floor touch the walls and same with the ceiling. If they are touching you'll get structural noise and the sound will travel through to neighboring rooms.
