Are there any good PC DAW products out there? All I hear about most everything is how unreliable they are.
I'm looking for reliablity, VST plug in compatablity, High track count (at least 64), surround sound, but only minimal MIDI functunality.
Is it true that different engines can sound different? I've heard confilicting points of view on this.
I don't have the budget for Pro Tools, but pretty much anything else is fair game.
Thanks in advance for any information.

Try out the DAW I'm using: N-Track Studio ( www.n-track.com )
Unlimited audio, unlimited (but minimal) MIDI, VST and DirectX plugin support, automation and features like the big sequencers. Nice and easy to use.
Now the good part: only $39 for 16-bit/$59 for 24-bit version.
There is a demo and manual you can download from the website. Flavio the programmer is updating it with new features every couple of weeks and is real good on support. Also on the website you can find a listing of people's songs so you can take a listen to what some people have been producing.

I actually used N-Track a couple of years ago, but it looks like it's changed a lot. I'll have to give it another shot. The one thing I don't see is surround support.
Anyone else?

After more research, it looks like that's (nuendo) what I'll be going with.
Thanks for your input.

Hmmm... Looks like you made a great choice! In my experiences with it i found it to be super easy to get around on! Has alot of feature that make it very professional. The sound card that they have to go with it is exceptional too! I'd say have fun. I'll be looking to upgrade from Cubase vst/32 5.1 to nuendo in the future. Steinberg has quality products. Can't say much for their technical support, so far i'm 0 for 1. I wrote them an e-mail about cubase and HALion and they never got back. But, good choice for PC indeed. I may in the future also think about DIGI 001. I'm running out of my house and do all of my major projects in a studio (which runs Nuendo). So digi 001 would also be a good choice for me and my PC. Eh, i'm rambling. :p I guess what, i'm saying is good choice!
