Hi
Any experienced mixer-- would you offer you opinion on
How would you pan seven drum tracks . 1- snare, 2 - kick, 3 - hi-hat 4/5 l/r toms - 6/7- l/r overheads (overheads double as cymbal mics). To go with ----
a Stereo mix with a 1 - gtr(Marshall/Fender) - 1 - elec bass - vocals and drums---classic rock kinda sound -- bass and guitar panned left right vocals down the middle.
Thanks for you advice!!!

sounds about right, though I've always wondered which perspective mixers were taking on the snare setup....if you were watching a band the and the drum set was infront of you then that would place the snare and hihat on the right. And I've always put the hihat panned a little harder out then the snare which always tends to be a bit more "solid" in the song, though that obviously depends on the song. So am I right or wrong on the panning of the snare...or perhaps it really doesn't matter and I can keep my theory?

It's up to you..but I always pan drummers perspective so when the drummer is listening to the tracks it sounds the same as he hears it.....the listening public don't really care.....
But there is a lot of engineers that pan audience perspective also...it's a persona decision.
Sometimes I pan the HH outside of the snare.....sometimes I don't...depends on the track
