Hey,

I've got the 96/52. I syncing from an Aardsync using Word Clock. Everything is working except in the SyncCheck box I'm getting a "No Lock" message beside the ADAT1 In.

I was running the 2.04 Driver and getting the following:

ADAT1 In: No Lock/Lock (in alternation)
ADAT2 In: Sync/Lock (in alternation)
ADAT3 In: Sync/Lock (in alternation)
- Sometime I could record clean Tracks and sometimes there would be crackles.

I updated the Driver to 2.10 and now I'm getting:

ADAT1 In: No Lock
ADAT2 In: Lock
ADAT3 In: Lock

- Now I can't record Tracks.

What is the difference between Sync and Lock, and why do the alternate?

Has anyone got a solution?

Lock means there is an adat signal coming in. Syncronous means there is signal (lock) and everything is at the same place going the same speed. I don't know, its roughly analogous to tach pulses and smpte being used to get two multitrack tape machines into PLL. Its alternating because the RME isn't getting what it is expecting to receive. Which narrows it down to your a/d, your 96/52, or the interconnects between them.

Try swapping your toslink cables around. One could be kinked and permanently damaged. Also, try plugging for example adat1 out into adat2 in. Also, you can change the prefered sync reference and see if that helps.

I have a HDSP multiface that behaves like this at times (especially at 24/96). For whatever reason, i have to leave my a/d turned on for maybe 30 minutes before it settles down (and the noise floor drops maybe 5-6 dB when it happens). Recently plugged everything into a UPS and it seems to be better. The problem also seemed to be timed with the HVAC fans starting up, so it might be related to the power supply to the outboard a/d. GIGO effect.

Makes you hate digital when it isn't working, doesn't it?

Thanks for the Rep. I think you're right. I'm gonna look at the cables tonight, 'cause when I pulled the ADAT1 cable the core slipped back down into the sleeve. I got it back, but as I understand it: these things are somewhat delicate (Tara Labs - not flexible). So hopefully this is it so I can start Tracking all my Grammy winning tunes.
