I'm posting this outside of the best nearfield monitor thread since that's getting pretty long and seems to be somewhat dominated by the "anything other than ADAMS sucks" garbage...

Before I heard about the Prolinear 820's, I had pretty much decided that the HR824's where the best bang for the buck in it's price range. How do the Prolinear 820's compare in quality? These are to be used in an acoustically imperfect home studio for mostly jazz, r&b, rock & fusion where all instruments are recorded direct. Thanks!

Sorry no one replied to your post. In the past year since you've posted, the Mackie's have had some really great reviews, the latest being in Mix I belive and they were spoken very highly of.

Cory,

I eventually decided to go with the Mackie's since I never heard anything bad about them and they sounded the best of the monitors I had the chance to demo in person. Unfortunately, my work schedule hasn't allowed me to do anything productive with them since I bought them... :(

Thanks,
Peter

Bummer!
I first heard the 824's at Sweetwater. I was down getting my 32x8 console repaired, and was waiting in the synth room for my sales rep. They had a Korg Triton hooked up to one 824. I found a really fat low string sound, and man did that 824 fill the room.

Glad you got the Mackie's.
