Maybe I'm up in the night but this is what I'm thinking. How about a Presonus M80 and then two Focusrite ISA 220's through a Motu 828mkll giving me 12 inputs to my pc through the firewire? Any comments appreciated. I was wondering if the MOTU is a step backwards from these preamps? Also would anyone suggest the Avalon 737 insted of the focusrite gear?

What are you using it for? The 737 is different than a 220 and each has their respective uses..
You could use the 220's digital out's, but the M80's outs will have to go through the motu convertors...which should be ok depending on what your doing. I'd like it...

I'm upgrading my home recording system and moving to a small building nearby. I want to be able to do a 4 or 5 piece band live. I can't afford top of the line equipment, so I need to stretch as far as possible to make the operation viable. Of course it has to sound good. I would use the ISA 220's on vocals or kick drum or whatever the track needs to shine. Hopefully the Presonus M80 pres would suffice for less critical tracks. A couple of Avalons would be cool, but my impression is that the ISA's are more useable for more applications.

Yeah...the 220 is a bit more flexible...then again Avalon has a reputation like Newmann and when seen people get excited if you know what I mean.
