Don't know how many of you have read about it, but thought it'd be a good one to bring up.

I think the adoption of aes31 would be teriffic. I really hope that manufacturers move towards this direction. I know some of the high-end digital companies are already using it (Euphonix, I think). The thing I wonder about, correct me if I'm wrong, is that the AES31 standard is to be used in conjunction with FAT32 formatted discs. If this is true, that could be a huge obstacle since macs use another format.
Obviously, this only concerns DAWs that rely on the computer's hard drive. Self contained recording systems, like Fairlight or the Euphonix R-1, or even host computer based systems that use an integraded hard drive, like the SoundScape r.ED., wouldn't have much of a problem converting to AES-31 in the future generations of those products.
Software based mac DAWs would have a bigger leap to make if they wanted to write AES31 files, and since the Macintosh IS the platform of choice for us artsy types, that could spell trouble.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

That was my main reason for my post. I'm a Pro Tools LE (Mac) user (I frequent the DUC quite a lot) who's concerned about Digi's reply in that article.

There's been many of upset LE user's that have been clamoring for more LE features that just about every other DAW software offers (e.g.-Time Code, a Firewire interface solution, etc...) and that only our TDM big-brother's have, mainly the 5.2 release that enable's use of Rocket Net.

Geez, it's my first post here, and even though I posted this a while ago, I'm glad you took the time to reply shaneperc!!!

I'm surprised that nobody is chipping in their 2 cents on the issue. This could potentially be a huge advancement for digital audio in the way of modularity.
I would really like to hear what some Mac aficionados have to say about this. If this standard establishes itself, that leaves the current Macs out of the loop. Obviously, this isn't a huge deal. Everything will still run like it always has, but this or any standard will make things so much easier.
