DP4 unstable on Powerbooks?

I was about to buy Digital Performer 4 along with the MOTU 896HD, but have read countless horror stories about DP4 not running well on PowerBook G4s...which I will be using (1Ghz, 1G RAM, OSX 10.3.1).

I've read lots of reports of unexplained crackles, poor fader response and crashes.

Any input?
