View Full Version : Software for the G5
I am going to purchase a G5 Dual 1.8 early next year and up until now I was goign to use Cubase SX on it as it was reccomended. However, I have heard of quite a few problems with SX on the mac particularly the G5 and Panther and quite a few unhappy people. I can get over not being able to use VSTi's if I don't use Cubase but what would be a good program for the G5. I don't really have anything against Logic but I'm not really happy with it's price and I've been told it takes the long way around the simplest procedures. I was interested in using DP4 as it is only for mac and has been optimised. I've also heard it is now compatible with AU and I have been told the Spectrasonics plugins are compatible with MAS (they sound so awesome). As I'm also getting a MOTU 828mkII I thought it might be a smart idea to get DP as I can upgrade from AudioDesk. At the moment I am not terribly well informed. Anyone's help with this or comments of any kind would be greatly appreciated. I like Cubase but I can't make the wrong choice.
Thanks.
Kai.

Hi Kai
DP4 is a fantastic program that's powerful and easy to use. I use it everyday (as do all of the people at http://www.DPusers.com). I also use Logic and it is a very powerful program but tends to have a steeper learning curve. DP4 does support AU. FXPansion makes a great wrapper that will wrap your VST instruments and make them usable as AU plugins.
If you are getting an 828mkII, then you can upgrade to DP4 at a great price. The marriage of MOTU hardware and software is great!
I'm using a single 1.8 (I know I missed the boat) and love it! Your dual will be burning!

I gotta second the DP4 vote. As far as audio, it is the best and most powerful app that I have used. Its great for midi too, but I still miss Vision, it was organized so well and unbelievably flexible. But that is another story.
DP has always gotten the reviewers vote for the do it all system if that is an issue.
If your gonna get their hardware anyway, the software obviously will make a great match.
