Is there anybody else out there who will prefer to use a Digital Recorder instead of a PC based system? Any comments of Akai DPS16/24 or any other brand owners?

I use my PC for a lot of things in audio, but using programs like Cubase and Logic tends to be hard to use and uninspiring. I really enjoy programs like Cool Edit Pro, Acid Pro 3.0 and FruityLoops 3.0, but for MIDI sequencing and recording I think hardware is the way to go for me.

Manufacturers of DR's keep coming out with new and more sophisticated units, so I guess there's more people buying them. Akai DPS16 reviews are great all over, and the new DPS24 adds a lot of new things.

Mostly, I like to produce Hip-Hop tracks, but also R&B and Dance music. And Im going to build a serious studio down the road. For now I just want to create, build tracks and master all the new gear to the fullest. I have a $12,000 budget, and no, I'm not rich, and I don't sell drugs. I'ts a long story...

Please any suggestions in this categories
