Question,
The Yamaha 4416 has 16 faders. The 2816 has only 8 faders. Does that mean I must use the "automation" function for my mixing, when using the 2816? Let me be clear- there are 16 tracks, and only 8 faders??

What is the price difference between the 4416 and the 2816? I really would like to be able to mix without hassling with automation.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I understand what you're asking, but I think you might need to reconsider the automation question. I use an AW4416 in my project studio and can get through a mix without the automation. On both of these mixers the automation controls the faders, the effect, and the EQs, and more. Not just for the track that have been recorded to the hard drive, but on the input channels as well. The way Yamaha set up the system you can edit automation events just like you would in a midi sequencera. It just makes life easier.
