hi there,
my laptop is p4 2.4, 512 ram and i am looking to do recording/mixing with it. i have seen that there are usb interfaces out there but don't know enough to make an educated decision. i only need to be able to record two tracks at a time. my laptop has usb2 but not firewire.
any reccomendations or things to consider would be appreciated. as of now i don't have recording software so i am starting at square one. i do have experience with recording on my stand-alone daw (tascam 788).
thanks
christopher

First I wouldn't recommend using a lap top because of its proprietary condition. but if you have usb 2 you should be allright running 2 channels at 96/24 - with usb 1 you can't. So get that apogee mini me and your on your way

I do laptop recording and have had real good luck. I have a Edirol UA-5 which has stereo input that can be considered as 2 channels. Its real portable, USB, and does a great job.

I use CakeWalk home studio 2000. Because I only record one or two (Stereo) tracks at atime I have not had any problems so far. I imagine if I were to play back 20 some tracks there could be drop outs. I usually burn a CD with the Cakewalk bundle of all the audio and track info then do the real processing on my heftier home PC

I have found that a lot of people are going with the Mbox by digidesign. It has a USB connection with two pre amps built-in. In addition, it comes with Pro Tools LE which will allow you playback 32 channels. Check it out on the web site and give us a call if you have anymore questions.
