I am getting a co mputer to use exclusively as a DAW. I will be installing my Aardvark 2496 soundcard and will be upgrading to Sonar from Cakewalk 9 and Studio Mix. I wondered if anyone knows if I should have had the computer company install Windows XP Pro instead of Home Edition. I did not even give it a thought at the time and now I am a bit concerned as to how it will do. Also, Does anyone know the best deal for buying the upgrade to Sonar from Cakewalk Pro 9 ? Thanks... You should be ok with either. The main difference between the two are some remote management and support options and support for networked environments.
Both are built on the same NT derived system and should give you equal stability for entry level studio work.

One other big difference is the fact that XP Pro can support Hyperthreading on the High end Intel chips which Home can not support. Also Pro has support for more memory and dual processors.

So no you don't need the professional version - and go to the cakewalk web site for a deal if you are registered
