I was just wondering if anyone else has had any issues when collaborating with another artist that uses a different plaform. Specifically in reguards to tempo settings.

Here's the exact situation:
I'm running Logic Audio Platinum on a Mac (G3-300), and a friend is running Cubase on a PC (Pent4 - 1Ghz).

I've recorded all my midi instruments to audio files at 128 bpm and saved the individual parts. When I take them to his place for a potential remix, we set up a new file at 128 bpm and import the audio files, things seem to be a bit off (especially over time).

Anyone know a possible cause? Another friend had mentioned that different BUS speeds could cause the time clock to react different, but I thought 128 bpm is 128 bpm, no matter what gear is setting the timing.

If this is true, how does one gadge the differences and is there a possible latency setting I can change based on this calculation?

?Que Pasa?

you would think that 128 = 128. Sounds logical, but it isn't always the case. A good comparison would be to take two watches or clocks and synchroize them...even though you should be able to come back a week later and they should say the same thing (1 minute is one minute, right !?) Alas, they won't be..there is really nothing so precise that It will be exact. You may have to slightly speed up or slow down the other system. My PC system seems to run about .45 bpm faster than my MAC system. I've learned this after dinking around a bunch, so I just automatically make the adjustments. If you can't compensate for this, you may need to make a TEMPO MAP in logic...its quite easy, and will make things more workable

I've often wondered about that. I'm guessing that you're recoding to .wav files? (I'm not sure which file formats either program can write to, but wav seems to be the most universal).
I wonder if there is anything in the wav standard for writing in sync points. Maybe not sample-accurate sync, but something to designate beats or measures would be helpful. Other than that, maybe there is some Beat Detective-esque plugin that could help out.

Would it be possible to sync the two different platforms to a third reference time code generator? I was thinking that if this were done, there would not be an ever increasing difference in the exact timing. The small time error would still be there, but it would esentially reset each beat. I don't think quantisizing would work, but it might be interesting to try.

Are you attempting to sychronize audio AND MIDI files? Different programs have different methods of keeping the audio in sync (or not) with MIDI. This could explain some of your problem. I guess I don't fully understand what you are doing so it's hard to nail down where the problems is.
