Hi, I'm trying to use the "Getting Started" Manual, and when I try to record something, the MIX Window looks different than the one in the book. I'm trying to find the "input" button so I can choose the input for my microphone, but I can't find it.

Also, I'm using a new, dedicated computer for recording--Athlon 1.3 gig processor, 512 megs of RAM, but for some reason, when I try to play the demo song, it hangs up after a few minutes and tells me that there is a CPU conflict and to go under hardware settings and lower the H/W buffer, but when I do that, I get ANOTHER error message that tells me to increase the H/W buffer. What's up with that?

Thanks,

Lawrence CLark

I'd say the easy answer is to get a MAC. Otherwise go to Digidesigns web page and seach their Forums. I'm sure the answers on there.

Don't blow your money on a mac, your AMD system once it gets going will blow a over priced mac away.

You got issues with your system e-mail me and I can help you out.

Who built it for you anyways?

I use a PC and probably continue to do so but if I had the chance I would've bought a mac. If you are even thinking about getting a new computer, talk to the sales staff at sweetwater and I think they will tell you the same thing. I know the digi 001 was designed for a Mac initially. Even the maunal is written for the Mac...that sucks for PC users! I don't exactly know if you can just change your computer without changing the program though.

Like most of the folks at Sweetwater, I do have a Mac bias. The Digi001 system however, is generally very stable on a PC. You do have to make sure your system conforms to their compatibility specs - for example, the Thunderbirds are the only supported Athalons, and the chipset must be a pure VIA chipset (VIA KT133a). If your system matches these specs, you should be able to rock with the Dig001 on a PC.

I'll post what i posted to the Windows Digi001 group at Digidesign:

Hello, everyone.

I have:
ASUS A7M266 AMD 761 Chipset Motherboard
512 MB of PC2100 RAM
AMD Athlon 1.2 Ghz Processor
Sparkle AMD Appoved 350 Watt P/S

I'm happy to say that the Pro Tools Digi001 bundle that I purchase the day before yesterday works without a hitch.

I's also like to say:

a) The AMD 761 chipset has been specifically reccomended by other audio card manufacturers. This board in particular was reccomended to me by several other audio groups, i bought it and it fixed all the issues that i was having:
http://www.asus.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/socketa/a7m266/index.html

It seems that you are taking a chance with other chipsets, even with low end cards like the SBLive Value. It has to do with the Northbridge and Southbridge components on the board itself. I went though many headaches with other boards and Aardvark Direct-Pro 24/96 system.

b) one of the things i found out is that A-bit in particular isn't making very good AMD boards any more. They were making some good PIII boards, but they are a brand that alot of people in particular are having issues with.

c) and lastly, AMD has an AMD tested and approved power supply and motherboard listing on thier web page. this is a GOOD thing. we should be so lucky as to have that on Intel's page. look before you buy.

::update:: not only does it work fine, it's rock solid. My friend brought over his HD recorder and his Creamw@re Sonar last night. We plugged 1-8 analog out from it to the Digi and 9-16 from the ADAT optical out and dumped whole 16 track songs from his 16 track to the Digi without even a hicup. not only that, but I had instances of 9 compressors, 7 eq's and 2 reverbs going and it still is only hitting just below the halfway mark on the CPU meter. it. freakin'. ROCKS.

'nuff said.

as you were.
