View Full Version : Older ISA sound cards on new PC motherboards

I've finally decided to look into a faster, 1 GHz, PIII-based computer with the 815 chipset. Problem is, my beloved Antex SX-36 sound card is designed for an ISA--not PCI--slot. I contacted Antex to see whether there is an adapter of some kind which will still allow me to use the card in one of these newer, faster PCs. There is apparently no ISA-to-PCI adapter that they know of. My Sweetwater rep knew of none either. So I inquire of the vast lot of audiophiles who may have a solution. Any info? Thanks, in advance!

I've never seen such a device myself, and I doubt one exists, given the engineering differences between the two. (You would have to have a very intelligent adapter, not just one to change the physical connector type)
There are newer motherboards with ISA slots out there, although you have to look around some to find them. (They are probably cheaper than an adapter, if one does exist)
Any specific reason you need to keep your current card?

Chris:
Thanks for the response. I'm reluctant to part with the sound card for no other reason than the fact that it's a GREAT SOUNDING card, barely two years old.. and I'm cheap.
Seriously, your answer confirms just what I was afraid of: The adapter would be far more expensive than an entire new motherboard or sound card. Looks like I have some shopping to do!
Take care!
