Thanks for all the tips that are posted here. I know I'll have a whole lot to learn, tweak and try.

It's perfect timing for me to read the thread "Digital vs Analog" because I've been mixing at home with a DAW system. I've been trying different ways of mixing down, but it just doesn't sound as punchy and "pumping" as I would like it. This particular song is dance/techno/house. I usually work on pop music and my system is as follows:

G4 Dual 533MHz running OS9.2.2
OS HD ATA-100
Recording HD SCSI U160 or Fantom Firewire
Adaptec 29160N
MOTU Digital Performer 3.11
Presonus Digimax recording at 24/44.1 AES out to 1224
MOTU 1224 (used only as interface)
Mackie LM3204

My tracks are both audio (drum loops, vocals) and MIDI (synth, ep, piano, pads, synth bass). I would run the main outs of the LM3204 to either the instrument ins of the Digimax (AES out to 1224), or straight into 1224 analog ins 1-2. When I listen to the mixdown for both tracks, I would hear a down-grade in quality. The mixdown using Digimax sounds slightly more compressed, even though I've maxed out the limiter. The mixdown using the 1224 analog ins doesn't sound as compressed, but I still seem to lose the "punchiness".

What is the best way I can mixdown with this system? Maybe I should track all the MIDI tracks onto audio, then just mix it in DP and bounce it all onto a stereo audio track? Am I missing any useful plug-ins? I'll be getting the TC Native Bundle, will that help? I know there are a lot of questions, but they all have to do with one thing:
HOW TO GET THE BEST MIX OUT OF WHAT I'VE GOT!!!!
