I just purchased the Echo Mia soundcard. This only has the capability to have either headphones OR speakers hooked-up to it at one time.
I live in an apartment with my two daughters. I need to be able to work with my PC and not bother anyone else, so I need headphones. However when I double-check my projects, I need to use my monitors (Tannoy Reveal Active- to be purchased shortly).
Echo has recommended a small mixer to connect the speakers and headphones to.
The thing is, I only use software music programs to make my projects, mostly SF Acid Pro, Sound Forge XP and Vegas LE.
I don't use other instruments , such as guitars, drums or others. The only other thing I have that would be connected to the mixer (Behringer 6 Ch), would be my Cad 22 microphone.
My question is, do I need a mixer?

Thanks for your time.

MMuzic,
Maybe you could just get a distribution amplifier? That might be less expensive, although I haven't looked at the prices in awhile.

Check out places like musicians friend or sam ash or mars music. I saw a real nice small fostex VM88 digital mixer that would really do a good job for you under $200 bucks. They make a semi-pro model, the VM08 that would work fine too. I had one them for a week and returned it only because of the plastic case. The scene memories would be real handy for your kind of music because you could pre-load 99 different mixes and switch as needed during the mix down. The dual effects were very good, and the unit has both digital and analog outs. There are other digital mixers around the same price if you look under the scratch and dent sales. Good luck

I will answer my post, mostly because I found a REALLY cheap solution to this problem. So if anyone else has the same situation, try this out.
As I mentioned,I don't do any work ouside the software with other instruments, so I was hesitant on buying a mixer just to connect my headphones and speakers.
Using an audio selector box from Radio Shack and some adapters, I got the desired result.
My microphone is connected directly to my Mia soundcard.
From the Mia output, I connect 1/4" to RCA adapters then connect to the amp out on the selector box. Then I have 1/4" to 2 mono RCA Y-adapter for my headphones connected to the CD input on the selector box.
The speakers will have a 1/4" to RCA adapter, which will plug in to the box at the TV input.
It works, and it's inexpensive! Always a welcomed combination with DAWs.

Thanks for your input and time.
