View Full Version : wavecenter/pci & XP -> crashes

I just installed a WaveCenter/PCI card and GigaStudio onto my PC running Windows XP. I ended up with constant STOP ERROR's (STOP: 0x7F(0x00000008, etc). I would get one every 10 mins or so, even when the computer had freshly booted up and was just sitting there.

I pulled out the card and had the Device Mgr unistall the WaveCenter driver but I STILL got errors, lots of them...

I finally did a SYSTEM RESTORE to the previous day and my computer is usable again (ie back to normal). The card is no longer in the machine.

Anyone have any hints as to why this would happen and what to do about it?

I'm using the WDM driver 3.01 from Frontier that (supposedly) works with XP.

I looked for IRQ conflicts and didn't see any.

I'm thinking of switching to Hammerfall if I can't find a solution.

Thanks for any hints.

I fixed my problems with GigaStudio. It was a conflict with another driver, though not sure which one. I disabled a bunch of startup items and the problems went away. At some point I should track down which driver was the problem, but haven't yet.

I found a nice startup manager (though nothing as nice as the MAC's Conflict Catcher). It's called Startup Control Panel on mlin.net and it's free. Using msconfig to manage startup files was not very useful, since some programs automatically reactivate some startups even though you've turned them off in msconfig.

Anyway, everything is working under XP now.
