Which would be faster/better for external hard drive storage and CD-RW? I plan on buying a G4 w/ digi 001. Thanks!

The bandwidth needed for a CDR is relatively small, so there really are no SCSI vs Firewire issues there at this point (unless you want to use Masterlist burning software, which does not as yet support Firewire). I would still stay away from USB at this point. Any new G4 you purchase will come with a CD burner anyway, so I'm not sure you'll even need to add one.

10,000 RPM UW SCSI drives certainly have more throughput than 7,200 RPM Firewire drives, but unless your edit density is going to be incredibly high, since the Digi001 is limited to 24 audio tracks, I don't think you'll really notice any performance difference (but there is a hefty price tag difference!). I would caution you to use a Firewire drive, such as those from Glyph, which has been optimized for audio use - you may not get the same performance (and certainly not the same support) with off the shelf drives.

Firewire CDRWs are great, but if you really want a good HD, go with a SCSI 10,000 RPM. Those things blaze, and you won't be limited at all. Firewire HDs are good, but might limit you down the road
