I learnt something from someone I know about recording heavy metal vocals.
Use a Shure SM57 with pop filter for vocals, then crank the gain pot all the way so it is distorting, then with the aid of a compressor, give it a really heavy compression.

this sounds amazing in the studio when recording, but in a live situation how would it be possible considering you are dealing with an extremely hot micorphone, and there is no way a vocalist would hold and sm57 on stage.

the high gain will probably give you more instruments than guitars, and that heavy of compression will probably increase feedback 10 foldwhen the singer isn't singing

That's funny.....I could have sworn the last time I looked, "Guitars" were instruments?????

In this case...I would have your live engineer add the FX via Aux....That way the engineer can control, when, where, how..it is used, based on what you wanted in pre-production.

Another way, is to put the mic through a guitar FX prssr, and hit bypass in the gaps with your foot...

Oops, was supposed to be more instruments than vocals. Thats what happens when you are posting, eating, watching your kid and advancing shows at the same time. :classic:
